The Transalpine nicknamed "the road between the mountains" or "The King Road" is not only the highest road in Romania, but also represents a fairytale route in the heart of Transylvania. Along the way are monuments of nature and architectural jewels erected a few centuries ago. The road took its name from the Latin "Transalpina" (the country beyond the mountains). It is nicknamed the "King Road", because King Charles II, after rebuilding it, inaugurated it in 1938, going through it himself, together with the royal family.
